Western Regional Alumnae Symposium
"Women Living Well - A Gathering of the Bryn Mawr College Western Regional Alumnae in Celebration and Enrichment"
March 17-18, 2001
Please join Bryn Mawr College President Nancy J. Vickers, Professor Brunilde Sismondo Ridgway, Athletic Director Amy Campbell, and experts in the fields of nutrition, yoga, and medicine, for two special days of talks, discussions and activities that engage our minds, bodies and souls. Your local alumnae club, the Bryn Mawr Club of Southern California, has taken this opportunity to welcome fellow Bryn Mawr alumnae from across the Western Region, as Los Angeles hosts the first Western Regional Symposium for Districts 9 and 10. We hope you will enjoy this opportunity to meet fellow alumnae from both your own neighborhood and the entire Western region. In recognition of the importance of the Western Regional Alumnae to the College, the Alumnae Association has generously contributed to this event thereby reducing the registration fee to \$50. In addition to the conference speakers, this fee provides you with an all-inclusive lunch, dinner, and reception at the city's oldest private club, the acclaimed Los Angeles Athletic Club, with its magnificent period furnishings and fine art collection.

We invite you to join us, as President Nancy J. Vickers answers your important questions on the College Plan for a New Century. Come and enjoy our tailored program on wellness, facilitated by Athletic Director Amy Campbell with discussions from the experts in health and fitness.

  • Founder of Team Survivor, Karen Van Kirk, will provide inspiring survival stories on women of all ages who have confronted cancer and fought to maintain control of their health and their lives.
  • Expert nutritionist, Jessica Segal from Nutrifit, will discuss nutrition and wellness.
  • Fellow Bryn Mawr alumna, Dr. Eve Guth '81, will provide a conversation on seeking medical advice.
  • Personal trainer, Ni Bueno, will lead a fun participatory session to demonstrate the value stretching and yoga can play in your busy life.
Following these presentations, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences with alumnae from other clubs in the Western Region during an elegant reception and dinner. We will end the dayŐs adventures with a traditional step sing. Lanterns are welcome! You will also receive a beautiful gift from the Alumnae Association.

On Sunday morning, Professor Emerita Brunilde Sismondo Ridgway, Ph.D '58, will lead us on an exclusive guided tour of the J. Paul Getty Museum, our own local treasure. The price for this event is $25. A bus will provide round-trip transportation from the Los Angeles Athletic Club, or you can park at the Getty (no parking reservations are required on weekends). Please note that we can only accommodate 40 people on the tour and that priority will be given to participants in the Saturday program, so donŐt delay your registration.

For additional information, including registration, lodging and travel, please visit the conference website or call Cynthia Washington at 610-526-5233. We hope you will join us for what promises to be an enriching and connecting Bryn Mawr experience. Anassa Kata!

Greeting Cards Available Online
Our ClubŐs fundraising cooperation with the Friends of the Library continues throughout the year. Please visit our website to view the catalog and shop online. We have a collection of Beatrix Potter cards that would make terrific Easter cards and a variety of beautiful cards by Mary Cassatt and others that would make wonderful Mother's Day gifts. Like all of the cards we feature, the Beatrix Potter cards can be custom printed with a special greeting in your own handwriting, for just $2 per card! (minimum order, 50 cards) A selection of our most popular cards will be available for immediate purchase at the West Coast Symposium in March. If you would like a paper copy of this catalog for yourself or would like to order custom cards, contact Maria Rudolph
Admissions Update
This year, the Admisssions Office has received 60 applications from young women in Southern California. Many thanks to those of you who spread the word about Bryn Mawr. In an effort to help admitted students choose between Bryn Mawr and the other offers of admission they receive, we will be welcoming them as special guests to our Continuing Education Tea in April with Professor Hamilton. Further, we are looking for new Admissions representatives in Los Angeles, particularly someone to Chair the volunteer effort in this region. Please contact Amy Hughes if you'd like to help.
